Last year, we introduced this offer by calling it "the value of the year".
Six months later, Dubost's 2020 Moulin-à-vent remains the best deal we've encountered by a wide margin.
Dubost's 2020 Moulin-à-vent En Brenay represents the sort of value that we're constantly seeking, but only very rarely find. It's been at least five years since Ian and I have found something comparable. This is a bottle that holds its own at $30 or more.
We bought every bottle that we could get our hands on.
At as low as $17.95 in 12-packs, this is the sort of Beaujolais pricing that we haven't seen in over a decade. For the most part, pricing like this doesn't exist in today's world.
We created special case pricing to encourage you to stock up on the wine.
Moulin-à-Vent has long produced what's considered the "Kings of Beaujolais." Its depth and power are unparalleled. It is also, unsurprisingly, the longest-aging wine of the Crus.
Dubost's 2020 En Brenay manages the somewhat miraculous trick of offering up plenty of Moulin-à-vent's structure and stern minerality while still being deliciously accessible and expressive.
It shows great complexity, delivering vivid plum, blueberry, and gently spiced cherry fruits backed by savory, almost meaty elements, and notes of crushed stones. As stated, Moulin-à-Vent is most often the largest-proportioned of all Beaujolais' Crus, yet in Dubost's hands the wine has much more than power, it is finely etched and finessed.
Simply put, this delivers a lot of wine for the money. Its combination of freshness and silky texture makes it very versatile at the table and very enjoyable on its own. This is certainly a wine to have around in quantity. We're happy to have another opportunity to offer this.
