In 2010, we finally found it. Now, our go-to winter warmer is back by popular demand and at the very sharpest pricing.
The value on offer here is something that we rarely, if ever, see.
The 2010 more than lives up to the standard set by the '07. This is a powerful wine, with smooth-edged dark spice and sunny fruit. It's this depth of concentration, suaveness and aristocratic composition that has landed Numanthia as a standard-bearer for the Toro region.
This really shows off the depth of concentration that has made the old vines of Spain's Toro so popular. Once nearly forgotten, Toro has now become home to some of Spain's most compelling full-throttle wines. Numanthia represents the best that Toro has to offer and punches far above its weight class.
Manuel Louzada, who helms the winemaking at Numanthia, describes his wines: "Toro wines are like bulls, beautiful and round on the outside, muscular and intense on the inside." The presentation here is seamless: roasted stones, cocoa, and leather, but still sleek and expressive. Serious enough for a hearty winter meal; comforting enough for a night in on the couch.
