Lionnet's wines are uncompromisingly honest and wild expressions of the northern Rhône.
Neal Rosenthal was introduced to Lionnet by his Côte-Rôtie producer, Bernard Levet. Levet is certainly a good jumping-off point for getting a sense of Lionnet's wines. Apparently, the Gonon brothers are also fans.

Lionnet's family has been growing grapes in the northern Rhône since 1575. They follow a decidedly old-school philosophy. The result is a cast of wines with amazing finesse and purity.
Over the past 5-7 years, Lionnet's wines have catapulted into a whole different qualitative realm. Each time that we taste the wines, we're shocked by how good they are.
When you factor in the value that Lionnet's St-Joseph Rouge Terre Neuve delivers, it's obvious why this demands to be a "Back Up The Truck" offer.
Lionnet's 2023 offers up blackberries steeped in crushed rock, game, spice, and floral elements. There's both a brightness and a chewy edge. There's something brutally candid, and ultimately compelling, about the wine. This is easily one of the best examples of the wine that we've tasted.
This is a personality-filled bottle that makes for really exciting drinking. We expect it to age very well over the next 7-10 years, and created very sharply priced 6-packs to encourage you to watch it evolve.
There's no mistaking that the quality at this domaine is on a major uptick. This is a serious and compelling Saint-Joseph. When you factor in the value that it offers, there are few smarter bets in this appellation.
