I'm constantly on the prowl for Burgundy deals. It can feel like a full-time job. Occasionally, I strike gold.
Today, I'm happy to offer an example of this.
In the know Burgundy fanatics have been deeply impressed by what's happening at Hudelot-Noëllat. Charles Van Canneyt arrived at the domaine and catapulted the estate to a whole new level of quality. They have become some of the most sought Burgundies.
Every time I open a bottle of Hudelot-Noëllat I'm shocked by how good the wines are. Without fail, I watch the bottle get drained quickly.
Hudelot-Noëllat 2012 Bourgogne Rouge is one of the most ridiculously drinkable bottles of Burgundy around. I've lost count of how many bottles we've drunk at Crush.
We created special 6-pack pricing because this is a wine that you'll want to have on hand in plenty of quantity.
2012 is a breakout vintage for Hudelot-Noëllat. Quality has been soaring here for the past few vintages, but everything just clicked in 2012.
The 2012 really dramatizes their success. Compared to their grand Richebourg, RSV and Malconsorts, the Bourgogne Rouge is a "little" wine, for sure. But it possesses a striking, bouncy purity and definition. The superlative winemaking is obvious. When you factor in the price, this is a crazy deal.
At the end of the day, this is exactly the sort of wine that I like to keep on hand in quantity. It's fresh, delivers the right amount of complexity and is really friendly at the table with all sorts of foods.
I don't feel a need to go on and on here: this is simply a joyous wine that I love to drink and to have around. Needless to say deals like this don't come along very often and they don't last for very long.
