Back Up The Truck: Burgundy Edition -
2014 Hudelot-Noellat Bourgogne Rouge

Posted by Ian McFadden

Hudelot-Noëllat's Bourgogne Rouge may be the greatest sub-$30 Burgundy value.

Since Charles Van Canneyt's arrival at the estate and the soaring quality that resulted, the Bourgogne Rouge has become a core wine here.

Each vintage, we hunt down as many bottles as we can find. Then, we send an email and in a matter of hours it's gone. It seems that word is out - Hudelot-Noëllat's Bourgogne Rouge offers not-to-be-missed value.

I'm always searching for everyday Burgundy and far too often, I'm disappointed with what's available. Hudelot-Noëllat's Bourgogne Rouge is a godsend. I really can't think of any other bottle in the price range that comes close to what it delivers in terms of complexity and sheer deliciousness.

In recent years, Hudelot-Noëllat's wines have become some of the most sought after Burgundies. For me, it's the top-to-bottom quality that drives home the world-class winemaking here.

I have a particular fondness for the 2014 Bourgogne Rouge. This is a really compelling vintage for the wine. In 2014, it impresses with its clarity and delicacy. Burghound's note captures this well: "There is good detail and really lovely vibrancy." There's a radiance to the 2014 that sets it apart.

I'm always excited to offer Hudelot-Noëllat's Bourgogne Rouge, but the 2014 is an especially joyful and engaging example. I strongly advise you to check this out. In terms of value, there are few wines in Burgundy that come close.

Burghound: "An exceptionally pretty nose is airy, fresh and high-toned thanks to the cherry and pomegranate scents. There is good detail and really lovely vibrancy to the lighter weight flavors that terminate in an utterly delicious finish that exhibits a touch of bitter cherry."
