Castell'in Villa is one of the great, traditional, and honest examples of Sangiovese.
Castell'in Villa's style is one of harmony and exacting precision. The wines flaunt a magical combination of verve, terroir-soaked purity, and subtle complexity. For me, the total package is amazing.
It's clear that I'm not alone. I’ve recommended this wine to several serious collectors and they always come back for more. The last time we offered the wine we witnessed hundreds of bottles sold in a couple of hours.
You’ll have a hard time finding another wine with as much soul, complexity, and ageability for $22.95. Castell'in Villa's 2017 Chianti Classico is not to be missed.
The 2017 vintage is a riper and more powerful one. For Castell'in Villa, the vintage allowed them to produce a wine of amazing grace and refinement along with plenty of immediate textural appeal. Their 2017 Chianti Classico has a little extra fleshy depth, but what's striking is how "low octane" the wine feels. There's a dancing finesse to it.
Castell'in Villa is one of the most historic, time-tested estates in the region. When a wine with this stature and success is available at such an affordable price, there's no doubt about making it a "Back Up The Truck" offering.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2017 Chianti Classico will delight Castell’in Villa fans. No, it is not a repeat of the 2016. Let’s get that out of the way. Instead, readers will find a silky, wonderfully nuanced Chianti Classico that is ready to charm right out of the gate. All of the estate signatures are present, but the 2017 benefits from a bit more immediacy because of the warm growing season. Sweet red cherry, cedar, tobacco, sage and dried herbs linger nicely. The 2017 is a gorgeous Chianti Classico. Best of all, it will drink well upon release."
