We're always on the lookout for values in red Burgundy, and Cornu-Camus nails this category.
At $25.95 in mixed 6-packs, 2021 Cornu-Camus Côte de Nuits-Villages and Pernand-Vergelesses very much overdelivers and offer loads of pure enjoyment.
Cornu-Camus was a new producer to us and we were pleasantly surprised by the honesty and outrageous quality. The domaine was founded in 1981. Today, their 12ha are farmed with sustainable methods and their vines include parcels from Côte de Nuits Villages, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Savigny-lès-Beaune.
The Côte de Nuits Villages and Pernand-Vergelesses were the standouts of a recent tasting. We decided to offer the wines together due to how nicely they complemented each other. The Côte de Nuits Villages is bright, snappy, and has a very pleasing rustic element. In contrast, the Pernand-Vergelesses has a sleek and tightly coiled minerality and a darker fruited density.
The 2021 red Burgundies offer lots of appeal. It's a vintage where what seems like a constant march of warm vintages paused. These a refreshing low-octane wines with serious vivacity. These two Cornu-Camus wines show the vintage at its best.
The dark side of the 2021 vintage is that there is very little wine to go around. We bought every bottle of the two wines that we could. It's still a relatively modest quantity. We encourage you to get your orders in early.
