The 2022 Zarate simply delivers a lot for the modest price.
It is worth mentioning that when we tasted the wine, we didn't know the price and loved it. The wine acts as a perfect summary of what we're looking for in an Albarino.
The 2022 is linear and mineral driven boasting a silky texture and refreshing salinity. There's a very crisp and clear profile to the wine that we really like. All of this is complicated by orchard fruits and floral and spice notes.
The wine comes from organically tended vines on granite soils in the Val de Salnés subzone of Rias Baixas. Val de Salnés is located close to the sea and the cooler microclimate is thought to produce some of the best examples of Albarino. The sheer energy of Zarate's 2022 nicely captures the style of wines that this subzone can offer.
We strongly encourage you to check this out. It's rare that the entire staff is so excited about a bottle at this price point.
