Among Burgundy producers, Ampeau is a welcome outlier.
Instead of releasing the most current vintage, his releases follow a different logic. They're released only when they're ready to drink.
The fact that Ampeau has some of the most formidable real estate in the noble villages of Puligny, Meursault, and Volnay make the domaine's philosophy even more exciting.
Today, I'm very happy to offer Ampeau's 1991 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières for $174.95 per bottle.
These bottles are in stock and ready for immediate delivery.
The style at Ampeau is steadfastly vin de garde. These are wines that flaunt firm mineral backbones, bold acidities and compact structure. You get a rigorous honesty and there is a quiet elegance to the wines.
It's in vintages like 1991 where the vigorous mineral core and finesse of Ampeau's wine really shine, especially when it comes to Perrières. While it's not a widely heralded vintage, we've been very impressed by the mineral punch and elegance of 1991 white Burgundies.
Meursault doesn’t have any Grand Crus, but there’s no doubt that Perrières can rival Grand Crus from other villages. For Chardonnay, this is a very special place. The wines are deeply complex with a riveting tension, intensity and refined elegance
Ampeau's 1991 Perrières is in the zone boasting razor-sharp precision and layered, radiant richness. The breeding of Perrières is on bold display. There are high-toned floral notes with spice. The refinement and gracefulness is astonishing.
It's rare that I get to offer old white Burgundy from such a great site and from a producer with a proven track record. Our original offering was in April of last year. Very little remains of our parcel. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll do our best.
