Back-Vintage Müller Kabinett:
2007 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Kabinett

Posted by Joe Salamone

Finding Müller's Kabinett with age on it has become very difficult.

Today's offer highlights this - these are the only bottles in the country.

No other wine on earth offers the combination of intensity and walk-on-tip-toe weightlessness.

Everything from Müller's QbA to his Eiswein is absolutely stunning. Recently, though, we've been obsessed with his Kabinetts. The way that it manages intensity without weight makes it utterly and uniquely compelling.

Scharzhofberg and Egon Müller are one of the great marriages in all of wine. Scharzhofberg is a great site. Unlike many of Germany's top sites where potential ripeness is an important part of the equation, Scharzhofberg works on a different logic. The site produces wines with relatively low oechsle (ripeness) levels.

Scharzhofberger Kabinetts, in any vintage, thrive on steely finesse that's full of cut and mineral-drenched length that boasts the wine's nobility. The 2007 Kabinett shows the power and saturating minerality of the vintage, which saw long hang times and fairly high ripeness. It also possesses plenty of cut, lift and blazing purity.

For us, Scharzhofberger Kabinett is one of our favorite wines anywhere. Being able to offer a Müller Kabinett with over a decade of age on it is a luxury and one that we doubt we'll be able to repeat any time soon. Please keep in mind that quantities are very limited.
