"Beautifully delineated, intense and vibrant"
- 2016 Germain Meursault 1er Cru Charmes

Posted by Ian McFadden

Germain's Meursaults have quickly become some of the most exciting examples of the appellation.

I've been trying to amass enough Germain for an offering. Frankly, what I was finally able to put together for the Charmes is small. I could be overly optimistic about having adequate quantity for an offering.

If you go looking for the 2016 Charmes, you'll find a handful of listings and very limited quantities in the U.S.

What really impresses me about Germain's wines is their rigor- the way that they can be expansive and concentrated while being so finely etched with laser focus.

His Charmes dramatically highlights this. Along with Genevrières and Perrières, Charmes is one of Meursault's great sites. Compared to the others, Charmes is known for its grandeur that if not handled thoughtfully can get a bit plump.

In Germain's hands, Charmes assumes a shocking amount of finesse and definition while possessing seriously impressive volume. The 2016 is a great example of the wine. The concentration and cool profile showcases the best of Germain's Charmes.

I'm going to wrap this up. While the quantities available keep the circle of Germain buyers fairly small, people who know the wines snap them up quickly when the opportunity presents itself. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
