Griotte-Chambertin is one of the most beguiling and elegant of Gevrey's Grand Crus.
It is also one of the smallest and most elusive Grand Crus in Burgundy. Just over a handful of producers even make wine in Griotte. It's painful, but the truth is that there are very few examples of Griotte.
Chezeaux's Griotte bottling is one of the most exciting examples. As many of you know, this is one of the big secrets of Burgundy. It's made by Laurent Ponsot, one of the absolute elites of Burgundy. The exciting part is that the Chezeaux label can be had for significantly less money.
Most of you are probably familiar with how the system of métayage works. Here's a brief refresher: An arrangement where a wine is made in exchange for a percentage of the final product. Ponsot makes the wine from Chezeaux's land, and in return he gets two-thirds of the production.
We never miss an opportunity to offer Chezeaux's Griotte-Chambertin. However, the 2019 vintage is especially exciting.
It's been many years since a red Burgundy vintage has been met with the level of excitement that surrounds 2019. The tidy summary of the 2019 vintage in Burgundy is that it was a ripe one that produced wines that miraculously remained fresh and with vivid terroir imprints. It's easy to imagine the total package being very impressive.
The 2019 Griotte-Chambertin boasts serious concentration matched to beautiful elegance. Expect soaring bright red fruit aromatics with plenty of minerality and nuanced soil tones. The harmony and underlying structure announces that this will age beautifully.
In any vintage interest in Chezeaux's Griotte-Chambertin far outstrips the quantities that we have available. It will be a bigger problem with 2019. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
