I'm very excited to offer Mugneret-Gibourg's 2022 Vosne-Romanée as my wine of the year.
There are four major reasons that led to this being an undeniable choice as my Wine of the Year.
Over the last twenty years, no other producer has made more consistently great wines vintage to vintage than Mugneret-Gibourg. In 2022, the wines of this domaine are incredible. There’s an extra dimension of depth and breadth to these wines from the top to the bottom of the range.
In selecting my Wine of the Year, I always focus on a wine that qualitatively supersedes its price point, which is a challenge in the world of Burgundy that we live in.
Vosne-Romanée is the ultimate location. To use a real estate analogy, it's the 5th Avenue of Burgundy. There may be no village as cherished, and its Grand Crus are legendary. Even the top examples of village wines can be jaw-dropping. As with Liger-Belair, Mugneret-Gibourg is my personal favorite.
I have a deep attachment to Mugneret-Gibourg's Vosne-Romanée. I love the wine in its youth and I love it with age. I have nearly every vintage in my cellar going back to 2002, and I recently had a 2005 out of magnum that totally floored me.
It is simply an elite bottle that never fails to deliver plenty of joy.
The Mugneret sisters have an amazing ability to capture the suave and exotically spiced nature of Vosne. The texture of the wines is sumptuous and simply irresistible. The 2022 Vosne has a dream combination of verve and generosity along with the requisite structure to age beautifully. It all adds up to a dynamite bottle.
It's a pleasure to have enough quantity to offer this as my Wine of the Year. The 2022 Vosne-Romanée is a bottle of sophistication and enjoyment and will remain that way well into the next decade.
