Pauillac is home to a disproportionate amount of Bordeaux's heavyweight Châteaux, including Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, and Latour.
While Château Chantecler shares the same elite terroir it carries a much different price tag.
We're happy to offer the 2019 Château Chantecler Pauillac at as low as $75.95 in 4-packs, the lowest price in the nation by a very healthy margin.
Château Chantecler is a part of Neal Rosenthal's Bordeaux portfolio that with producers, like Jaugaret and Moulin de Tricot, stands in contrast to the majority of the region. These small producers turn out individual expressions of Bordeaux under their direct and careful stewardship.
Yannick Mirande is at the helm of Château Chantecler. His family has been in Bordeaux for many generations. In 2004, his aunt sold most of the family's vineyards to Mouton Rothschild.
Yannick was able to hold onto a single hectare of vineyards. It's from here that Yannick issues a single wine each vintage with hands-on care that's rare for the region.
Chantecler's Pauillac is based on a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The resulting wine is a seamless weave of dark fruits, graphite, spice, and cigar box.
The left bank 2019 Bordeaux that we've tasted have impressed us. The vintage has soaring intensity with a nicely composed underlying architecture. The combination is difficult to beat. The 2019 Chantecler struts these qualities. The ripeness of the vintage allows it to be accessible today, but it's clear that the wine has plenty of aging potential.
We turn our attention to Bordeaux infrequently. However, the 2019 Chantecler was too good to overlook, especially for the price. It's difficult to ever imagine offering a Pauillac this honest and serious for $75 again. Don't miss this.
