The vines are old and located in Meursault. You get a presence and class that's exceedingly rare in Bourgogne Blanc. The 2017 is a stunning example of this.
Today, we’re happy to offer Fichet’s 2017 Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes for $42.95 a bottle. The Bourgogne Blanc VV has a strong following and 2017 is simply a great white Burgundy vintage.
It's worth pointing out that these are the only bottles available in the country.
The 2017 vintage produced wines of purity, balance, and joyful drinkability. This is a perfect complement to Fichet’s transparent approach to winemaking. We wholeheartedly agree with Stephen Tanzer when he writes, “This is Bourgogne Blanc at the quality level of Meursault.”
Fichet started working in Meursault back in 1981, thanks to his father’s sharecropping agreements. By 1984, he had produced his first wine. Sadly, Fichet was forced to start over from scratch in 1991 when the contracts ended, but today Fichet works with an impressive collection of vineyards thanks to renegotiated long-term contracts. Few winemakers are as dedicated to the health of their vineyards as Fichet and it comes across in each of the wines he produces.
This is one of the great Burgundy values. The quantities available are tiny. This is a wine that I'm sure will disappear quickly.
