Boxing Above Its Weight-Class
2015 Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin

The success of villages level 2015 Red Burgundies continues to shock us.

Trapet's Gevrey really highlights what the 2015 villages wines bring to the table.

It takes everything to a level that surprises you regardless of where the bar has been set. There's breeding, intensity and clarity of expression that you simply don't witness in the category very often.

I'm very happy to offer Trapet's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin for $67.95 on bottles and $63.95 in 4-packs.

This is simply a gorgeous expression of the 2015 vintage. At this point, most of you know the deal with 2015 red Burgundy. The short story is that it's one of the best vintages of the past couple decades and there's an enormous amount of excitement.

What makes the vintage so thrilling is the combination of concentration and verve. Trapet's 2015 Gevrey has an energy and purity that makes it stand out. The ripeness of the vintage is on display in the wine's concentration and layers of red fruits, but it's rendered with incredible detail and a mineral and earth-inflected drive.

Jean-Louis Trapet's I'll Drink To That! interview provides an incredibly rich discussion of Gevrey and the domaine's history. During the interview, Trapet mentions that the Gevrey is sourced from very old vines (some of which the family can't even remember the age of) and on choice slopes that are the extension of 1er Cru vineyards. Simply put, the Gevrey comes from a special place and it's in top form in 2015.

The 2015 Gevrey boxes way above its weight class. It's pretty amazing how much it delivers for the price. For me, it's villages level wines like this that are some of the brightest spots of the great 2015 vintage. Don't miss.

Burghound: "A more complex and more floral-inflected nose features notes of fresh and relatively elegant aromas of both red and dark currant, earth and forest floor. I very much like the mouthfeel of the lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that are at once seductive yet precise, all wrapped in an equally complex, persistent, youthfully austere and well-balanced finish. Worth considering."
