"Built to age" - Lowest Price:
2016 Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc

Posted by Ian McFadden

Drouhin's 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc has been an insider's secret for many years.

Amongst those circles, it is simply legendary.

Its track record is very, very impressive. An absolutely lovely bottle of 1993 reminded us of just how well Mouches Blanc ages. Allen Meadows has written recently about being floored by both the 1945 and 1949 Drouhin Clos des Mouches Blanc.

The 2016 Clos des Mouches has all the markings of a long aging Clos des Mouches. It has a mineral density and serious length.

The 2016 Clos des Mouches has an incredible nuanced depth and a building multifaceted complexity. There's an ultra-refined and vibrant finish. For all of its penetrating grip, there's a lovely delicacy.

Clos des Mouches was one of the first vineyards purchased by Joseph Drouhin in the 19th century. Time has revealed this to be a brilliant move. Clos des Mouches is a star of Drouhin's vast portfolio - right there with Griotte-Chambertin and Musigny.

It's a special wine. Mouches has no problem hanging with Grand Crus. We haven't been able to offer Clos des Mouches Blanc for many years. The 2016 is so impressive that I made it a point to change that. It took a lot of effort to find enough for an offer, but still the quantities are modest.
