Bulletproof
2012 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges VV
Few producers have earned our trust and respect the way Chevillon has.
The wines are bulletproof. Chevillon is one of the most consistent producers in Burgundy, and the wines age beautifully. I've been blown away by older bottles of Chevillon.
The wines have a big presence in my cellar. They're right next to people like Mugneret-Gibourg, d'Angerville, Dujac, Lafarge, etc.
While Chevillon is no longer an insider's wine, the wines remain great values. The village wines from many top producers are in the $75-$100 range. Chevillon's pricing is much gentler.
Chevillon had tremendous success in 2012. You'll want to stock up on these. I say this with some trepidation - Chevillon was down somewhere around 40-60% in 2012. Quantities are limited.
Chevillon's 2012s are stunning. Speaking to Burghound, Bertrand Chevillon said "You really couldn't ask for cleaner fruit." The NSG VV is always an overachieving village wine, but the 2012 is special. There's a density and purity to the way it expresses Nuits' earthy minerality that makes it stand out.
There is little doubt that Chevillon is making the greatest Nuits-Saint-Georges out there. They are true, muscular Nuits with formidable architectures. When you taste the 2012 NSG VV, you'll see that it's not the power that's so captivating about Chevillon but the refinement, lift and harmonious mingling of soil, mineral, game and fruit.
It's rare that I get to offer Burgundy this good at pricing like this. My advice is to jump on this.
