The wines are in a word: bulletproof. Barthod just doesn't miss. The domaine’s calling cards are purity, density, and finesse. There's an unwavering honesty to Barthod's wines.
One of the reasons that Barthod's Bourgogne Rouge has such a fan club is that it serves as a perfect example of these signatures. Above all, the Bourgogne Rouge is incredibly refined and precise. Few villages Burgundies reach this level of class.
The 2017 has a gorgeous weave of bright red fruits, earth, floral notes, and spice. The wine captures the clarity and energy of the vintage so well. Finally, the balance is spot on.
There's not much to say. Barthod's Bourgogne is a long-time fixture in Burgundy fans' daily drinking. The wine ages nicely, it's worth buying some to cellar.
