Chevillon's wines are a pillar of our Burgundy program.
He is one of the most reliable producers in all of Burgundy. They are simply bulletproof. They are also some of the most honest, terroir-specific wines I know.
Unsurprisingly, Chevillon's 2020s are among the vintage's most successful collections. Today, I'm happy to offer Chevillon's Nuits Saint Georges 1er Crus Chaignots & Roncières at the lowest prices around.
The 1er Cru Les Chaignots comes from the northern side of Nuits, abutting Vosne-Romanée. Here Chevillon is a little less massive and muscular than typical. There's some of Vosne's spice and gentle richness of aroma on the nose. Burghound calls it "a mix of Nuits and Vosne". The 2020 has an impeccable balance between the spicy, floral aromatics of Vosne and the saturating, concentrated palate.
Chevillon has just over a hectare of vines in Les Roncières, and the wine strikes a very appealing middle ground between the ruthlessly mineral wines like Vaucrains and the softer wines like Chaignots. While it may not be the first name off the tongue when it comes to Chevillon wines, it always seems to be a tough wine to find and is wildly rewarding with a decade or two of age. Last year, we opened a bottle of 2002 Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges Les Roncières that I bought over 15 years ago. It delivered everything that you would want out of a bottle of great Nuits-St-Georges.
The 2020 is a great vintage for the wine. It's a total package of power, texture, and finely etched drive. It has a meaty and mineral signature with an element of gracefulness that nicely complements the wine's wilder elements.
This is Burgundy at its most unyieldingly honest, at its most soil driven. Chevillon achieved something truly awe-inspiring in 2020. Quantities are limited. Let us know your ideal order, and we'll do our best!
