Carillon has become one of my favorite producers of white Burgundy.
The wines of Jacques Carillon may keep a lower profile than some others in Burgundy, but they are no joke. You'd be hard-pressed to find Burgundies as carefully crafted as Carillon's.
I can remember in my early days of wine I would look at collector's cellars and see Carillon's wines rubbing shoulders with luminaries like Coche, Roulot, Ramonet, etc. It was clear right away that something was up with this producer.Â
Carillon's wines are expertly composed with sleek minerality and a beautiful combination of honesty and elegance. It all adds up to an extremely compelling expression of white Burgundy.
We have a particular soft spot for Carillon's Puligny Villages. Regardless of the vintage, the Puligny serves as a perfect summary of Carillon's style and seriously overachieves for the category.
The 2019 Puligny is an extraordinary example of the wine. Its mingling of power, length, and finesse is impressive. As with all Carillon, you get a unique combination of class, subtlety, and complexity that makes the wines so magical.
Carillon's Puligny has a rigor that makes it shine with 5-7 years of age. With time in the cellar, an incredible amount of nuance is teased out. The 2019 should not be missed.Â
