When Bachelet's Charmes is in its zone, it has few peers.
It is a larger-than-life wine. It's wickedly complex, deeply mysterious, and insanely powerful, yet manages to maintain an ultra-clear, super-elegant balance.
In short, Bachelet's Charmes is one of Burgundy's masterpieces.
For us, there's no better example of the Grand Cru than this. More accurately, Bachelet's Charmes ranks among our favorites in all of Burgundy.
Sadly, it is among the rarest treasures of Burgundy. Allocations, even to major merchants in major cities, often come down to a single bottle. Bachelet's plot is a mere 0.44ha of very old vines. Bachelet makes somewhere around 180 cases.
I'm very happy to offer Bachelet's 2001 Charmes-Chambertin. The 2001 is an utterly classical example of the wine. It boasts the meaty, mineral, and linear side of this great wine. The tense elegance and savory aromatic complexity are really compelling.
I'll wrap this up. Bachelet's Charmes is a wine that I'm constantly on the lookout for. It's rare that I find the wine with age and in any quantity. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.

Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate: "The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2001 has a savory, animally bouquet with fine delineation, touches of wet tobacco and copper piping coming through with aeration. The palate is well-defined with slightly chalky tannin, as well as crisp and tensile to the point of being brittle on the finish. Stern and linear, this is a strict Charmes-Chambertin that is drinking beautifully now."
