Everyday Burgundy - HALF-Bottle
2008 Tollot-Beaut Chorey-les-Beaune
Lowest Price in the Nation

Finding affordable, everyday red Burgundy has become increasingly rare these days. Today we offer some relief.

If we very often focus on the big guns of Burgundy, this is one of those everyday values, a wine that is just plain honest and delicious.

In The New France, Andrew Jefford marks Tollot-Beaut's Chorey-les-Beaune as a killer value from the producer's "sumptuous" line-up.

We've covered this before, but half-bottles come with a huge upside. They're perfect when a full bottle is too much of a commitment, perfect for those solitary nights, for the times when red Burg is exactly what you want for a particular dish, but you don't want to lock yourself into a whole bottle.

Chorey-les-Beaune is famous for producing hearty, spiced red Burgundies. They offer a good deal of muscle and herbal-tinged woodland berry fruit.

Tollot-Beaut takes Chorey's rustic side and gives it a bit of polish endowing it with a lovely sheen of velvety texture and sophistication.

In 2008, Tollot-Beaut's Chorey has a mineral-driven freshness that nicely complements the polish and lavish fruit that the domaine's thoughtful winemaking lends to the wine.

Tollot-Beaut is based in Chorey-les-Beaune - that, instead of somewhere like Gevrey or Vosne, likely accounts for their relatively under-the-radar status and above all, the value they offer. This under-the-radar status doesn't stop them from producing fantastic Burgundies with the same artisanal, quality-dedicated mindset we always look for. They use no fertilizers. They keep yields low. They harvest by hand.

Our value Burgundy offers are always our fastest sell outs. Previous Tollot-Beaut offers have sold out in a matter of hours with a frenzy of emails and a difficult allocation process.

It's probably best to wrap this up to prevent headaches on both sides. First, though, we should emphasize that values like this are rare and getting rarer. Our best advice is to stock up while you have the chance.
