Burgundy Without Artifice
2013 Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny
1er Cru Charmes
Bertheau's are the Burgundies that I'm most fond of.

When I catch one of Bertheau's showing well, I'm always deeply moved. These are understated, beautifully pure wines that favor grace over power.

Bertheau has a mere 0.66ha. I always search high and low for enough wine to offer. For me, it's unique in how it's captures the beauty of Chambolle. It's so finessed, so fine and has a gorgeous silken quality.

This marks our first 2013 offering. I'm excited to start introducing the vintage. No doubt, many of you have heard that it was a topsy-turvy vintage with cool temperatures, hail and some absolutely gorgeous weather.

When I arrived in Burgundy in January, I wasn't sure what to expect from the vintage. I have to say that I was absolutely blown away by many of the 2013s I tasted. When I returned, I immediately started trying to secure my favorite 2013s.

At its best, the '13s are brilliantly pure, vibrant and possess seductively fine textures. These are very exciting young Burgundies.

For those of you who know Bertheau, you can guess that his style really thrived in 2013. The Chambolle 1er Cru Charmes is amazingly nimble with a riveting energy and minerality. Overall, there's a crystalline, diamond cut precision to the wines.

I'm very happy to be able to offer this. For Burgundy lovers, Bertheau is a name you should know. Few, if any, of his wines capture the Bertheau style better than the Charmes. This is Burgundy without artifice. And beautifully so.
