The wines of Julian Haart became some of the top wines of the Mosel practically overnight.

His colorful biography provides an explanation and helps to reveal some of Haart's intensity and focus. Dropping out of school to learn cooking, Julian ended up working at GästeHaus Klaus Erfort, one of the finest restaurants in Germany. Soon enough he turned to wine and entered a series of wine apprenticeships that are nothing short of unbelievable: Egon Müller, Klaus Peter Keller, Werner Schönleber and Rheinhard Löwenstein.

The wines that Julian Haart turn out are absolutely brilliant. They are utterly clear, perfectly proportioned, have a profound textural complexity, and possess a buoyant finesse. As David Schildknect's quote above makes clear, Haart produces simply amazing Kabinetts.

Along with estates like Keller and Willi Schaefer, Haart's 2016s are beautiful. They have no problem hanging with and at points, even exceeding his stunning 2015s. The Kabinetts are really impressive examples of Haart's success in 2016. They are silky, cut and lifted.

Starting with the Goldtröpfchen Kabinett, the 2016 has a dazzlingly bright core of citrus and stony minerality. There's an expressive and exceedingly delicate presentation of yellow fruits, floral tones and building minerality as the acidity lends lightness and lovely refreshment. Everything is rendered with near perfect precision.

Haart sources the Schubertslay Kabinett from a cooler section of the vineyard. The Schubertslay Kabinett delivers such poise along with an unmistakable palate presence. Here you get an even more emphatic mineral depth with notes of sweet herbs and an almost magical harmony.

Haart's collection represents one of the high points of the 2016 vintage and these Kabinetts are two of the best examples of the category in the vintage.
