For a long time, the wines of Domaine Chezeaux were one of Burgundy’s great insider secrets. But then word got out and their popularity exploded.
Laurent Ponsot is one of the most singular, compelling minds in all of Burgundy, and his wines have always reflected that. In 2017, Laurent Ponsot decided to leave his family's domaine and go out on his own and took the metayage agreement with him.
Today, we’re happy to offer the 2017 Chambolle 1er Cru Charmes bottling for $119.95 per bottle.
The Charmes bottling has always been one of our favorites. This is the sweet spot of the entire range. For us, it represents the very essence of Chambolle-Musigny. It’s silky and elegant and incredibly refined. The perfume is mesmerizing and there’s an energetic verve that’s really exciting.
The 2017 vintage has become one of our favorite recent Burgundy vintages. The 2017 Charmes boasts incredible purity and freshness with an ultra-refined tension and ethereal finesse. In short, it’s a killer vintage of this wine that we expect to age well for the next 8-10 years.
Ponsot is one of Burgundy’s greats and his stature can easily be felt in the quality of the 2017 Charmes. It’s a wine I’ve always loved offering, but be warned, qualities are very limited.
