The Chambolle 1er Cru has become one of my favorites of Drouhin's lineup.
There's no shortage of hard-hitting bottles - Musigny, Griotte, Bonnes Mares, Amoureuses, etc. Still, the Chambolle 1er Cru manages to stand out. What it delivers for the money is seriously compelling.
No village in Burgundy impresses quite like Chambolle. It produces wines that are cast in silk, incredibly finessed, and bursting with complex aromatics. Drouhin's Chambolle 1er Cru serves as a perfect summary of its beguiling nature.
The Chambolle 1er Cru bottling combines five small 1er Cru parcels in Chambolle. The plots are simply too small to bottle individually. There seems to be some wisdom at work here because the wine has an impressive sense of completeness, along with great tension and balance.
The 2016 is the result of a very low yielding vintage. This consolidated all of the characteristics that make me such a fan of the Chambolle 1er Cru bottling. In general, Drouhin produced incredible 2016s, and it elevated the Chambolle 1er Cru bottling to a shocking level. We first offered the Chambolle 1er Cru in February of 2019, and I jumped at this parcel when I saw it.
This is an especially intense vintage for the wine. It delivers amazing length, gracefulness, and textural appeal. One of the things that I like most about 2016 is how the vintage combines concentration with the flavor profile of a cooler vintage. The 1er Cru explodes with perfume, flowers, and bright red fruits along with possessing a punchy stony mineral core.
The Chambolle 1er Cru has become one of our most popular offerings. This is a bottle that delivers a pedigree and class that may be unrivaled for the price.
