Clos Guillot is a special site.
When the Baudry family purchased Clos Guillot, they were confident that it would become their top site.
It's not difficult to grasp their reasoning. Clos Guillot sits just above Clos de L'Olive and Le Chêne Vert, two of Chinon's most renowned sites. Its terroir is mixed with clay over limestone in the upper portion and sand and gravel in the lower section.
The combination of finesse and chalky tension makes an utterly captivating and singular expression of Cab Franc. The first vintage was 2000. In the past handful of vintages, Clos Guillot has really hit its stride.
The 2019 is a great example of the site's potential. It has beautiful finesse and refinement. There's a serious mineral backbone, plenty of concentration, and loads of silky tannins. Finally, the amount of nuance is incredible.
This is a seriously impressive vintage for the wine. There are few producers who turn out wines as consistent or as finely rendered as Baudry. We expect it to age beautifully over the next couple of decades.
