When the Baudry family purchased Clos Guillot, they were confident that it would become their top site.
It's not difficult to grasp their reasoning. Clos Guillot sits just above Clos de L'Olive and Le Chêne Vert, two of Chinon's most renowned sites.
Clos Guillot is a special site. Its terroir is mixed with clay over limestone in the upper portion and sand and gravel in the lower section.
The combination of finesse and chalky tension makes an utterly captivating and singular expression of Cab Franc. The first vintage was 2000. Since 2014, Clos Guillot has really hit its stride.
Baudry's style is beautifully detailed, vividly transparent, and refined. Clos Guillot really seems to dovetail with Baudry's style, and in the 2021, it becomes very clear.
It's been some time since we've seen a Loire vintage with the energy and the classical proportions of 2021. Clos Guillot really thrived in 2021. It offers a bright complexity and plenty of elegance. High-toned red fruits mingle with darker woodland berry inflections along with notes of spice, sandalwood, and violets.
This is a seriously impressive vintage for the wine. There are few producers who turn out wines as consistent or as finely rendered as Baudry. With that said, Clos Guillot really shined in 2021.
