This is one of the rare wines that gets opened among a sea of tasting samples and takes on a life of its own.
The Crush staff simply flipped for this wine.
Clos Venturi has quickly become our go-to producer for Corsica, the fascinating island where French and Italian intermingle with indigenous curiosities.
Today, we're happy to offer one of the island's curiosities - the Bianco (Biancu) Gentile grape.
At as low as $29.95 in 4-packs, this offers incredible value. It's the best price you'll find for the wine.
As impressed as we've been with other bottles of Clos Venturi, the Brama Biancu Gentile shocked us. Many of the store's staff were still talking about the wine days later, which is a rare thing.
The wine combines beautiful composition with lots of complexity and mystery. There's a textual depth and jagged saline minerality that captured our attention. Add to this sunbaked herbs, and you have an incredible expression of wine that's perfectly suited for summer. The Brama Biancu Gentile receives eight days of skin contact and ferments in a contract egg before aging in a steel tank.
Clos Venturi farms biodynamically with sheep running through the vineyards and horses plowing the soil. Nineteen different varietals are planted. The vineyards are sandstone and sit in the center of the island at a high elevation. It's the only vineyard in this area.
After working at a cooperative, Jean-Marc Venturi bought Domaine Vico in the 1980s. When Jean-Marc's son, Manu, returned to the domaine, they took the best vineyards and created Clos Venturi.
We strongly encourage you to try at least one bottle. When Corsican wines hit the mark, they are so fascinating and individual. The Clos Venturi checks these boxes.
