Cotat Rarity: 2018 François Cotat Chavignol Rosé

Posted by Joe Salamone

The last time that we were able to offer François Cotat’s Rose was in 2015.

This is one of the most compelling examples of what rosé wine is capable of, and that goes a long way to explain its cult following.

Cotat's Rosé comes from a minuscule 0.4 ha parcel of Pinot Noir in the famed village of Chavignol. It probably goes without saying that finding François Cotat's Rosé in quantity is very difficult.

For many rosés, there's a race to drink them within the first year of release. In contrast, Cotat's is in prime form after 6-10 years of age.

Chavignol’s terroir is unique within Sancerre. It’s defined by its Kimmeridgian soil - the very same soil that’s found in the best sites in Chablis. It imbues the wine with a Chablis-like minerality and its incredible aging potential. As it ages, Cotat's Rosé becomes all about a sleek, chalky, and simply thrilling stoniness.

The 2018 boasts an extra dimension of power and resonance. The always present minerality packs a particular punch. It achieves a very nice equilibrium between weight and elegance.

It's a very rare opportunity to be able to offer François Cotat's Rosé. Our advice is to stock up while you have the chance.
