Creative Genius, Within Reach:
2016 Ponsot Bourgogne Rouge Peupliers

Posted by Ian McFadden

Laurent Ponsot is one of the most singular, compelling minds in all of Burgundy, and his wines have always reflected that.

One of the biggest stories of 2017 was that Laurent Ponsot decided to leave his family's domaine and go out on his own.

In formulating his estate, Ponsot wanted to place an emphasis on Bourgone Rouge and Villages wines. In short, he wanted to make wines for people to drink.

Ponsot produces some of the most individual Burgundies you'll ever taste. The style is unmistakable: Deep, textured, so powerfully dark-fruited and yet incredibly vivid and elegant.

The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge delivers all of this in the most delicious and captivating of ways. You get a clear picture of elite winemaking at an accessible level. And, to be clear, this is something special. To hit the mark at this level is amazing.

True to Ponsot fashion, the 2016 Bourgogne Rouge has an amazing transparency and an appealing suave texture. For red Burgundy, 2016 delivered incredibly concentrated wines with classical mineral and fruit profiles. Ponsot's 2016 is notable for its silky profile and energetic core. There's an extra dimension of complexity that makes the wines stand out.

It's extremely rare that you get to witness the brilliance of one of a region's singular producers at a price within reach. I strongly encourage you to check this out.
