Bernaudeau simply makes revelatory wines. They have a clarity, a deep mineral imprint, and liveliness that is fascinating and straight-up delicious.
Bernaudeau has just over 3ha of vines in Anjou and learned winemaking and biodynamic farming from Mark Angeli of Sansonnière, who is one of the great advocates of biodynamic winemaking in the Loire.
Stéphane Bernaudeau labels his wines Vin de France so as not to be restricted by the notions "typically" held by the governing bodies of the AOC.
The wines at Bernaudeau are bottled by parcel. Les Coqueries was first released in the 2019 vintage and is sourced from younger vines. This bottling immediately attained a cult following due to its incredible racy brightness. The 2022 combines delicacy with punch and length.
There are few wines in the Loire that I enjoy drinking as much as I do Bernaudeau. If you haven't checked out Bernaudeau, the wines are very much worth experiencing.
