Cult Saint-Joseph Without Artifice
2013 Gonon Saint-Joseph

I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to introduce this offering. In the end, I guess Gonon doesn't need any introduction.

The difficulty of securing this parcel made clear just how popular Gonon has become. 2013 is a short vintage, but finding this wine in quantity has been brutal; we saw about half of what we've become accustomed to.

There's no doubt all of this renown is very much deserved. Gonon's are some of the most captivating and soulful wines currently coming out of the Northern Rhône.

Pierre and Jean Gonon are making wines with the same honesty and soul as the old guard of the Northern Rhône - people like Verset, Trollat and Gentaz-Dervieux. The connection to this generation is made even more real by the Gonon brothers farming the vines of old-school legend Raymond Trollat.

The style here is delicate, precise and honest. This is the elegant side of Saint-Joseph boasting a rocky mineral core, wisps of smoke, spice and floral tinged red fruits. What the Gonon brothers achieve on these steep granite slopes is really amazing.

I really like the snap and vibrancy of Gonon's 2013 Saint-Joseph. There's a great aromatic lift and beautifully detailed length. Really, this is just a gorgeous expression of Syrah with an incredible amount of nuance and depth.

Gonon's Saint-Joseph remains one of the smartest buys in the Northern Rhône. It's sad to face such small quantities. Still, I'll take what I can get. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
