Nearing twenty years of age, this bottle hasn't let up. It remains a mineral bomb with precision and incredible structure. In terms of Sancerre, it stands alone.
Vatan's Clos de Neore is located in Chavignol in the infamously steep and renowned Monts Damnés vineyard. Clos de Neore sits in the center of the vineyard, lower in the slope. Sauvignon Blanc reaches a mind-blowing intensity and focus here. The soils are similar to Chablis, and you definitely feel it.
I've already mentioned this earlier, but the sheer density of minerality in the 2005 is shocking. It's profoundly oceanic and the currents of citrus add an expansive element to the wine. Then there's the wine's serious drive that's coated in a mineral-drenched waxy texture.
