Domaine JF Mugnier: 2002-2012
Chambolle AC, NSG 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale
& Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées

I don't get to offer Mugnier very often.

Especially a list like the one today...

I've been slowly amassing this collection of Mugnier. I'm guessing that it will largely be gone by the end of the day and a long time will pass before I'll be lucky enough to make an offering like this again.

Frédéric Mugnier

Mugnier is one of Burgundy's elite. These are wines that I've fallen hard for. Few producers hit the level of transparency, fineness and regal elegance that Mugnier does. Catching a Mugnier that's on point is one of the absolute high points of Burgundy drinking.

I'm really excited to offer this group of Mugnier stretching from Chambolle AC through Nuits 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale to Chambolle 1er Cru Fuées and spanning from 2002-2012.

To start with the 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, Nuits is known for its muscle, its characterful rustic edge. Without betraying the inherent power of the Nuits, Mugnier's 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale renders it with an incredible amount of refinement. The wine delivers well-delineated notes of earth, mineral, dark red fruits and flowers. Both 2012 and 2010 are among the greatest examples of the heights that Mugnier can reach.

Along with Roumier, Mugnier's Chambolle AC stands out as the villages Chambolle that wildly transcends its humble designation. Mugnier's Chambolle delivers an enormous amount of detail, finesse and ultra-fine persistence. Mugnier's is an exemplar of the beautiful silken elegance that Chambolle does better than any other place.

The Chambolle 1er Cru Fuées takes all of these qualities to a whole other level. And it does so with subtlety and grace. What always shocks me about Mugnier's Fuées is its pitch-perfect clarity. One of my favorite wines in the list below is the 2006 Fuées. It's been absolutely delightful every time I've opened it.

As I said at the start, this is the sort of list of wines that I doubt I'll be able to offer again. Mugnier grows harder to get every year as the domaine's place among Burgundy's best becomes increasingly obvious.
