Don't Miss Burgundy Value - Last Chance
2007 Chandon de Briailles
1er Cru Île des Vergelesses

We've offered the 2007 Île des Vergelesses before and we're happy to do so again. This is simply one of the best Burgundy deals that we've come across.

When we had a chance to buy a final parcel of this, we jumped on it. There's no way around the fact that Burgundy prices have crept up quite a bit in recent years. I'm really happy to be able to offer a 1er Cru that's so accessibly priced. This is a deal that we won't likely see again.

This is a really good 1er Cru for below current Bourgogne Rouge prices. Many hold Île des Vergelesses in extremely high regard. None other than Clive Coates has argued that Chandon de Briailles' holdings here merit Grand Cru status. Chandon de Briailles has some impressive Grand Cru holdings, including Corton-Charlemagne. In many ways, though, Île des Vergelesses, is the estate's flagship.

Given the pricing and how beautiful this has been showing lately, we've drunk our fair share of this. The purity, the subtlety and finesse are really lovely. Burghound highlights the "intensely minerally flavors" and calls it "a really lovely effort that is balanced and understated." And that sums it up well.

Chandon de Briailles is a great old-school Burgundy domaine. This is one of those quiet houses that (despite the laid back reputation) you'll find the bottles being collected by the same people who stock up on top Burgundy.

2007 is a vintage that Chandon de Briailles nailed. Stephen Tanzer captures the charm of the vintage quite well when he writes, "They finish with an almost electric impression of lift and perfume, as if their fine tannins were sparkling on the palate like diamond dust." The 07 vintage played perfectly into Chandon de Briailles' style. The vintage has a reputation for being accessible. It was that way right out of gate and the wines have never seemed to shut down. Indeed, the 2007 Île des Vergelesses is just delicious.

However, the balance and super-fine (but present) tannic structure promise that this will age for at least another five years. We've created 4-packs both because this is a wine that is hard to keep your hands off of and because you should save some for the future. This is simply a great deal that we encourage you to take advantage of while it lasts.
