Don't Miss Vintage - Burgundy Distance Runner:
2020 D'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans

"I too have long thought that the d'Angerville 2010s may be the best wines made here in the 21st Century but the breathtakingly good 2020s may indeed one day supplant them. " -Burghound

Guillaume d'Angerville and Burghound both agree that the domaine's 2020s are some of the best ever produced. I, too, was struck by the wines both when I visited last winter and again a few weeks ago in New York.

They are wines of incredible freshness, depth, and class. In short, it's the total package.

As you can guess, the 2020 Champans is a jaw-dropping wine. It has an incredibly lovely texture and energetic core. The Champans possesses explosive complexity with dark fruits, exotic spices, and a mineral undercurrent.

D'Angerville's Champans is one of Burgundy's distance runners. Every time we've had the opportunity to drink old Champans, they've been amazing. We’ve had bottles with fifty years of age that were still gorgeously fresh and completely stunning.

This explains why every vintage I always make it a point to cellar a healthy amount of Champans. The 2020 is destined to be an epic example of the wine.

Burghound: "There is a whiff of exotic spice sitting atop the ripe aromas of black raspberry coulis, violet, orange peel and Asian-style tea. The caressing but solidly energetic middle weight plus flavors manage to be at once elegant yet powerful before culminating in an equally austere, compact and beautifully well-balanced finale. This beauty of a Champans is also going to need at least 7 to 8 years of patience and should be more than capable of rewarding 12 to 15."
