Along with Tempier and Château Simone, Domaine de Trévallon stands as one of the great, long-aging, and truly noble wines of Provence.
For many years, we've been buying up every bottle of back-vintage Trévallon that we could find. Old Trévallon offers some of the most moving and honest experiences in wine. Bottles from the late eighties and early nineties remain stunning today.

Trévallon sits on hard limestone. Dynamite was required to plant some of the vineyards. Like at Château Simone, the vineyards face north, which limits the ripeness and gives the wine a beautiful finesse and minerality.
Very traditional methods are followed: the wine is destemmed, fermented in open-top tonneaux, and then aged almost exclusively in foudre. Based on old texts, Trévallon believes that Cabernet Sauvignon was very important to their area, and along with Syrah, it makes up 50% of the blend. Since the appellation guidelines for Les Baux de Provence forbid Cabernet, the wine is bottled as an IGP.
Trévallon flaunts the nobility that France's south can display. The 2023 really highlights the finesse, elegance, and aristocratic power that Trévallon can achieve. There's a nicely judged wildness to the wine that imbues it with an extra dimension of mystery, soulfulness, and complexity.
Between the length, concentration, and balance, it's easy to see the 2023 going the distance as these wines so often do. It's a great example of this time-tested wine.
