Clos des Mouches is one of the great gems in Drouhin's stable.
It was one of the first sites that Joseph Drouhin bought in the 1920s, situated in a choice mid-slope location.
Simply put: Clos des Mouches is a very special site. If Beaune is known for being somewhat sturdy and rustic, Clos des Mouches is something of an anomaly; the wine is strikingly elegant, suave, and silky in texture.
It is a wine that brings the force and heft of Beaune, yet does so with incredible composure (a composure that only increases with 5, 10, 15 years in the cellar) and it always has an incredible snap of limestone and mineral. The wine has a reputation for making serious old bones.
The 2010 Drouhins are a force to be reckoned with. The 2010 is a Mouches of incredible grace. There's a pinpoint detail and clarity that's simply thrilling.
As time has passed, it's become very clear that the 2010 is one of my favorite red Burgundy vintages of the past couple of decades. The wines have it all. They're clear, concentrated, and beautifully precise. I buy them whenever I can.
The 2010 Clos des Mouches Rouge has been dynamite since it was released and has only gained in stature in the subsequent years. I'm very happy to offer this.
