"Excellent"
2019 De Montille Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret

De Montille's Puligny 1er Cru Cailleret is consistently one of the most exciting bottles of white Burgundy that we taste.

The wine boasts a rare tension-filled clarity.

De Montille's Cailleret's greatness isn't widely known and that makes it an especially fun bottle to put in people's hands. After tasting the wine, customers inevitably write to me asking for multiple bottles.

Their Cailleret combines a stony intensity with incredible grace and precision. The wine boasts a quiet unfolding nuanced complexity that's fascinating. If I had to sum up the wine in only two words, they would be clarity and cut.

Even in this context, the 2019 is special. The wine has a kinetic energy with an incredible impact. There are layers of ripe citrus that are complicated by subtle tropical notes. As is usually the case, everything is delivered with utter finesse.

This is classically structured white Burgundy. Nothing is rushed; there appears to be little interest in exploiting youthful flash. What results is thrilling. The 2019 promises to be an epic vintage of De Montille's Cailleret.

Burghound: "Here too there is enough reduction to push the underlying fruit to the background. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that coats the palate on the classy, balanced and powerful finale. Excellent."
