"Excellent delineation and punch"
- 2016 Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières

Posted by Ian McFadden

Carillon stands as one of the great, time-tested domaines of Puligny.

The wines may keep a lower profile than some others in Burgundy, but they are no joke. You'd be hard pressed to find Burgundies as carefully crafted as Carillon's.

Nearly every time I'm poking around the cellar of a serious Burgundy collector, I come across Carillon's wines right next to luminaries like Coche, Roulot and Ramonet.

The wines possess stunning finesse, energy and precision. Of course, in the finessed mineral department, Perrières leads the charge. Perrières is the most laser-focused of Carillon's lineup.

From my tastings, Puligny has struck me as the most successful village for white wine in 2016. Jacques Carillon’s collection stands out for its startling concentration and mineral grip that highlights the low yielding vintage. The mingling of power, length and elegance is impressive. The 2016 Perrières offers an ideal vantage point to see the magic of Carillon.

The number of great older bottles of Carillon that I've drunk is astonishing. They are one of the most consistent makers of white Burgundy. I have really high hopes for the 2016 Perrières. Everything is in place for it to be a killer bottle.
