Firing On All Cylinders:
2010 D'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs

Posted by Ian McFadden

D'Angerville's 2010s are simply magical.

Today, I'm happy to offer the pinnacle of the stunning collection.

For red Burgundy, the 2010 vintage is all about a marriage of terroir-saturated clarity and a weightless intensity. The wines have been captivating since day one, but the 2010s that I've recently tasted have been stunning.

Clos des Ducs is a special site, and it shows. Ducs is a 2.4-hectare monopole that can trace its roots back at least 500 years. It has a high elevation at 324 meters and is a steep, southeast-facing slope with chalky soils.

The 2010 combines a serious architecture with an amazing impression of weightlessness. There's an outrageous balance and precision to the wine. It delivers a beautiful core of polished and tensile minerality. There are also pristine notes of the red fruits, spice, and earth.

Before closing, I should mention that this is a very modest parcel. I encourage you to get your orders in early.
