"I was very confident in my raw materials and thus I vinified the grapes as though 2007 was truly a great vintage."
-Etienne de Montille

Many producers thought 2007 would be very good and charming vintage, but Etienne de Montille saw more and swung for the fences.

It was a bold move, and it worked. We recently tasted through a bunch of de Montille's 07s and they are shockingly impressive Burgundies.

We've been fans of de Montille's 07s since their release and are happy to offer one of their strongest wines in 07, their Pommard 1er Cru Pézerolles, at the lowest price in the country.

Beyond this, though, the pricing is pretty crazy. At $69.95 per bottle, this is the lowest price around for any vintage of de Montille's Pézerolles. The fact that he killed it in this vintage sweetens the deal quite a bit.

Burghound's note on de Montille's Pézerolles captures its clarity and quality so spot-on that it's impossible not to use it right from the start: "the pure, racy, detailed and linear flavors that are focused like a laser on the balanced and wonderfully persistent finish."

With de Montille's 07 Pézerolles, you get the brightness and energy that's typical of 2007. But more importantly, you get a level of concentration and structure that only the very best of the vintage have to offer.

While we've been bullish on the 2007 vintage from the entire Cote d'Or, the Côte de Beaune, and Volnay and Pommard in particular, are likely the vintage's biggest success stories.

The village of Pommard is famous for producing muscular, dense and long-lived wines. The 1er Pézerolles takes Pommard's brawn and transforms it into something amazingly elegant and nimble.

As always with de Montille, they exploit Pézerolles' inherent elegance to create something of precision, complexity and above all, ageworthiness. This is a domaine that's known for pursuing a mineral-led and ample tannin style that may be a little shy in its youth, but really blossoms into something gorgeous.

De Montille has just over 1ha in Pézerolles - quantities are limited. Still, we don't hesitate recommending it, regardless of the headaches it may cause. It's far too impressive.
