Force and Finesse:
2010 Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges

Simply put, the 2010 Burgundies are dazzling.

We've drunk a few bottles from 2010 recently and have been floored by them. We were reminded what a special vintage 2010 was.

The 2010s have an electric purity with punch, and incredible finesse. This explains why the vintage immediately became a favorite of ours.

I was very excited to land this modest parcel of 2010 Gouges Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges.

Gouges' signature has always been a certain sturdiness married to an ultra-clear expression of their sites. Unsurprisingly, this transparency is particularly true in the 2010 vintage.

The monopole Clos des Porrets, with its gravel and pink limestone, yields a wine that is powerful and rugged with a perfectly calibrated suaveness and polish.

The 2010 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges delivers Gouges' hallmark sturdiness with extraordinary clarity and finesse. The length and delineation of the wine is amazing. I've long been a fan of the Porrets, but 2010 is a stand-out year for the bottling.

Of course, as is very often the case with back-vintage Burgundy, there's a very limited quantity available, and we expect interest to far outstrip supply. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.

Burghound: (January, 2012) "Reduction dominates the nose. By contrast to the funky nose, there is a lovely inner mouth perfume to the precise, intense and vibrant middle weight plus flavors that possess good volume. There is admirable persistence on the quite firm finish that is at once pure and actually rather refined, which is not always the case with this wine. Worth a look."
