Fruit, Spice and Everything Nice: The Sequel
A Selection of Pierre Gaillard's 2006 St Josephs
More 50% Off Stunners from the Northern Rhône
As you may remember, our Gaillard Côte Rôtie email sold out in a few hours. Today we present you with the chance to snatch up his St. Josephs at up 50% off - but act quickly!
Because we don't have much of this wine!
This is the "Syrah Sequel" to the other week's Gaillard Côte Rôtie offer. Today we feature an exploration of St. Joseph, one of the Northern Rhône's most misunderstood appellations, once again at simply ridiculous prices.
For those who dream of beef stews while the cold February rain dampens the city's spirits, today we present a four-pack of Gaillard's brilliant St. Josephs at up to 50% off! See below for all the details on each wine.
At roughly $15.93 a bottle, this is about as inexpensive a way as you'll ever find to explore the meaty, seductive Syrahs of St. Joseph.
On days like this, the only question is how many four-packs? Here are the brief "trailers" on the different wines in this sequel offer.
2006 St. Joseph
The entry level St. Joseph is a blend of younger-vine parcels. This is the most upfront St. Joseph; it has bright, friendly Syrah fruit with a nose that has plenty of floral aromatic complexity to keep things interesting. While not a quaffer, this is certainly very easy to drink. Pair this with stews, roast chicken, even richer pastas. If you have any left over this summer, hello BBQ!
2006 St. Joseph "Clos de Cuminaille"
This bottling is aged in 50% new oak and is a step up in power and richness from the basic St Joseph. The wine's inherent heft is nicely balanced by an energetic acidity. Braised lamb shanks anyone?
2006 St. Joseph "Les Pierres"
The final red, the Les Pierres, is aged in 100% new wood and is as robust as a Gaillard wine gets. Roasted coffee, chocolate and black fruits on the nose are punctuated by a suave and generous palate. Even with the new oak, the Les Pierres handles its power with a lot of class.
2006 St. Joseph Blanc
Finally, the St Joseph Blanc is a delicious white wines from the northern Rhône. A barrel fermented, sur-lie Roussanne, this is an aromatically enticing and delicious white grown on sloped granite soils that are similar to those found in Condrieu. With brioche and pineapple fruit and a nutty, mineral-laced finish, this rich white is a beautiful match with all sorts of foods and will bring warmer weather to mind.
Great wines, crazy deal, but also a fun "tour" for your palate's education and adventure. To order, email us (as soon as you can!) at offers@crushwineco.com or call the store at (212) 980-9463. We are going to allocate as fairly as possible.

James Molesworth of Wine Spectator: "A fresh, floral style, with a pleasantly firm edge framing the black cherry and violet notes. Fills out nicely, with briar and mesquite hints, as this airs in the glass. Drink now through 2010."

Josh Raynolds of Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky purple. Sexy perfume of blackberry, cassis, olive and baking spices. Very fresh and focused on the palate, with deep dark fruit flavors and late mineral snap. This combines full ripeness with striking vivacity, perhaps due to the "north and south winds" that Gaillard says constantly buffet this area, maintaining sound acidity."

James Molesworth of Wine Spectator: "Stylish, with blackberry and black cherry fruit laced with mineral and incense hints, all deftly framed by an alluring bittersweet cocoa note that lingers on the iron-tinged finish. Drink now through 2011"

Josh Raynolds of Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full gold. Honeyed peach and nectarine scents are complicated by smoky herbs, anise and dusty minerals. Fleshy and pliant, with deep pit and tropical fruit flavors, chewy texture and a long, spicy finish. This has good energy for such weight."
James Molesworth of Wine Spectator: "Mature in style, particularly for the vintage, with brioche, paraffin, dried pineapple and melon notes followed by a grilled nut¿tinged finish. Has nice length. Drink now through 2010. 100 cases imported."
