Clos des Mouches is a very important site for Drouhin.
This prime mid-slope vineyard was one of the first purchases of Maurice Drouhin when he essentially established domaine bottlings in the 1920s.
Drouhin's Clos des Mouches quickly became an expectation-defying wine beloved by Burgundy insiders. On paper, it's a Beaune 1er Cru and nothing to get excited about. In actuality, Mouches boasts a complexity and longevity that rivals Grand Crus. Burghound’s Allen Meadows has raved about the 1945 and 1949 vintages
Véronique Drouhin, the current winemaker, described the 2017 whites as ”genuinely great,” and we fully agree.
For me, this is a vintage where mags are essential. For white Burgundy, 2017 is a vintage of supreme balance and seldom seen clarity and energy.
Clos des Mouches Blanc is famous for its depth, nuance, and multifaceted complexity, and the 2017 vintage delivers on all counts. Even in the context of Mouches' long and impressive history, the 2017 is jaw-dropping. I'm very happy to have a second opportunity to offer this wine at the lowest price in the nation.
