German Elite, Part II:
2020 Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck Grosses Gewächs

Posted by Joe Salamone

Before Tim Fröhlich put the steep blue slate Felseneck vineyard on the map, it was totally off the radar.

Today, some of Germany's best dry Rieslings originate from the site and under Tim Fröhlich's watchful eye.

Felseneck is Schäfer-Fröhlich's top wine. It combines all of the best attributes of Tim's other sites into something truly stunning. It consolidates all the minerality, texture, and finesse of the other GGs into one stunning whole.

Schäfer-Fröhlich's signature is force and intensity combined with ruthlessly sharp detail. Every edge feels like it's been sharpened and brought into focus.

The 2020 perfectly encapsulates the pull-no-punches style. There's tremendous concentration and presence, but also a rapier-like incisiveness. It's a dramatic wine boasting brilliant clarity and a ridiculous level of mineral complexity, all ending with shimmering length.

Tim Fröhlich is easily one of the most obsessive and talented winemakers we know. Not that we need reminders, but his 2020 Felseneck GG does drive this home in a big way.
