German Rarity:
The Singular Magic of Müller Part II
2012 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger
Spätlese Alte Reben #7 Auction
A couple of months ago we offered a small parcel of Müller's Auction Kabinett. It sold out in a flash.
Today, we turn to an even smaller parcel of Müller's Spätlese Auction.
I don't know of any other wines that present such intensity of flavor on such a super-fine framework than the wines of Egon Müller.
This is the magic of Saar Riesling and from the hand of Egon Müller and his small army of old vines in the legendary Scharzhofberger; there is nothing greater.
Every time we taste Müller's wines, we're reminded of this.
As great as Müller's normal bottling are, our experience with Müller's Auction bottlings has convinced us that they exist on an even higher plane. Yes, they're rare, and expensive. With that said, these are some of the greatest wines in the world. For the few who know them well, they are legendary.
Auction bottles are not to be confused with their lesser siblings - these are special barrels, selected by the estate to be auctioned off at the annual VDP auction in Trier. Even in that rarefied context, Egon Müller has a long history of bringing absolutely killer selections to the auction. The easiest way to think of it is to picture the best attributes of the normal bottlings consolidated, amplified and given an indescribable dose of magic
Müller 2012s are beautiful. They display an incredible intensity married to a purity and fineness. Combined with this, there is a heartbreaking spectrum of subtle complexity.
Needless to say, we only have a tiny amount of the 2012 Spätlese Auction. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
