"Good stuff"
2011 Dujac Morey St. Denis

Recently, we tasted through a bunch of 2011 Dujacs and immediately went looking for the wines.

It was clear that Dujac is one of the biggest successes of the vintage. These wines sum up everything that's lovely about 2011. They're pure with amazing clarity of terroir.

While searching for 2011 Dujac, I was lucky enough to find this really well priced parcel of domaine Morey St. Denis.

I can think of few domaines where every bottle seems to transcend expectations by such a wide margin. These are bottles that go well beyond delivering. It's rare that a village wine wows me the way that this 2011 does. I include Dujac's Morey with a very small group of village bottlings - think Mugneret-Gibourg's Vosne and Roumier's Chambolle.

At every level, Dujac's wines are intense and saturating in their complexity. Yet there's an ethereal dimension that's simply haunting - the perfume and whispering complexity of Dujac's wines separate them from the pack.

All of this is clear from the 2011 Morey. There's muscle and elegance. There's minerality to spare. I love how earth, polish and rusticity form a harmonious whole. Burghound simply calls it: "Good stuff for its level." Generally speaking, Dujac's Morey can be a little firm in its youth. One of the things that I love about the 2011 is how approachable it is despite having the underlying structure to age for 7-10 years.

This is a deal that you should take advantage of. I write this knowing that there isn't much to go around. I may be giving myself and my colleagues a headache, but don't sleep on this.
